The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® are offered as a supportive modality to enhance health and wellness, and are not meant as an entire approach to health care. If you have any serious medical conditions, please consult your health care provider first.
About Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy ®
The Arvigo® techniques were developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, N.D. based on her apprenticeship with the Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and her own education, training, and research as a naprapathic physician.
Rosita’s lifework, the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® help to restore the body to its natural balance by correcting the position of organs that have shifted and restrict the flow of blood, lymph, hormones, nerve function, and qi (energy).
The pinnacle of my Arvigo® training has been traveling to Belize in 2018 for advanced clinical study with Dr. Rosita Arvigo, and later becoming a teacher of this amazing work. It is an honor to continue the legacy of my mentor, as well as traditional Maya healers, especially Don Elijio Panti, Miss Hortense Robinson and Miss Juana.

Arvigo® for Pregnancy
Traditional prenatal care with Central American midwives is primarily massage, which includes the belly, and the benefits to mamas and babies are numerous. Arvigo® Therapy provides care in ways not found in other prenatal massages. Through the Arvigo® techniques, we stimulate oxytocin (the love hormone) production, increase relaxation, confidence and connection. We stretch the diaphragm giving growing bellies more room to breathe and reduce heartburn. We balance ligaments and the uterus’ position for optimal baby presentation and effective uterine contractions. In the second half of pregnancy, we help open the “door” for birth by mobilizing the sacrum, pelvic joints and soften the posterior passage.
In a retrospective midwifery study in Colorado, results showed a significant reduction in asyncliticism, pushing time, placenta delivery time, and hemorraging. A decrease in pushing time reduces the risk of pelvic floor weakness and organ prolapse later in life.
Handcrafted Maya Moon Oil
My handcrafted Maya moon oil is popular with many of my clients and is also offered for personal use. This luxurious oil contains 9 sacred herbs from Belize gathered with prayer and infused in almond oil at the full moon. After stirring regularly and straining out the plant material, I add Rosita’s blend of 4 essential oils. The healing plants contained in it may add to the therapeutic benefits of the massage, while the essential oils give it an earthy divine feminine scent that adds an extra layer of sacredness to a treatment.
Commitment to Sustainability: The kit that I purchase to make the Maya moon oil, as well as tinctures I have available come from Rainforest Remedies. From 20-50% of the proceeds from Rainforest Remedies products help fund the Ix Chel Center’s projects such as support for the Traditional Healers’ Foundation, ongoing ethno-botanical research in Belize, and administration for the 600 acre Terra Nova Medicinal Plant Reserve. One of the goals of Rainforest Remedies is to demonstrate the economic value of preserving the rainforest for its healing plants by demonstrating the economic value of the rainforest as it stands.
Also called a v-steam or yoni steam, this traditional herbal remedy can have many benefits. It’s not just for the vagina, as it is a treatment for the whole pelvic bowl. While warming and softening tissue, increasing circulation, and sloughing off old layers of debris to clear out at menstruation, it is also a lovely time for personal meditation and giving love to your womb space.
Although this service was popularized in the mainstream by actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 2015, it is an ancient practice that has been around for thousands of years in many traditional cultures, in the east and west. There are many ways to do steaming on your own, but I found it cumbersome until I had a specially made wood stool.
For your convenience, I can have everything set up for your private experience before your arrive. In addition to a heated crockpot of fragrant herbs and a wood stool for this purpose, a blanket for your lap, a mug of tea and candlelight are provided. Please wear warm socks. Steaming is contraindicated during pregnancy, menstruation, and pelvic infection.
Traditional spiritual bathing “Itz Ku” in the Mayan tradition is adapted with prayers to suit each client’s own faith. Love is the essential element for all Spiritual Healing. It is a force that creates a connection or conduit through which divine healing can flow. Love is oneness, and oneness is a connection to all things. Through the use of plants collected with prayer (prior to the appointment), blessed water, copal incense and a ritual which includes prayers (personalized for the client’s faith) into the pulses, the Maya believe that “spiritual ailments” can be released from the body and auric field.
These spiritual ailments include “susto” (fright), “pesar” (grief), “tristeza” (long-term sadness), “coraje” (anger), “el ojo/ojo caliente” (hot eye), “mal ojo” (evil eye), and “envidia” (envy, jealousy). Although spiritual baths are especially lovely when done outdoors in nature, they can be adapted indoors when the weather does not permit a full bath outdoors.
To facilitate a more gentle release and aid in removing the blockages of emotional armoring, spiritual bathing is best done following an Arvigo® bodywork treatment. Whether permitting, spiritual bathing may be done outdoors under a tree in the backyard, or it can be adapted for indoors during the colder months.
